Type Locality and Naming

It was named by the First Brigade of Regional Geological Survey, Heilongjiang Bureau of Geology in 1974, and published by the Compiling Group of Heilongjiang Regional Stratigraphical Scale in 1979. The type section is located at the east of Bashilixiaohe River, a branch of Woduhe River, about 25 km north of Duobaoshan in Nenjiang County, Heilongjiang Province. The coordinate of the type section is 125°51′E, 50°25′N.

Synonym: (八十里小河组)

Reference Section:

The reference section is at the east bank of Luohe River, about 15 km southeast of Duobaoshan, and at west bank of Dahelihe River, in the lower reaches, approximately 25 km east of Duobaoshan.


Lithology and Thickness

The formation is dominated by yellowish green to greyish green fine- to medium-grained feldspathic quartz sandstone and siltstone intercalated with purplish red thin-bedded siltstone. Locally the upper part may comprise intermediate or intermediate-basic volcanic rocks, tuff and volcanic breccia.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The formation is conformable with the underlying Huanghuagou Fm

Upper contact

The formation is conformable with the overlying Woduhe Fm

Regional extent

It is distributed mainly in Nenjiang County and Aihui County of Heilongjiang Province in northwestern Lesser Khingan Mts. and stretches southwestwards to Yir of Arxan in Horqin Youyi Qianqi (Front Banner, Right Wing in Horqin), Inner Mongol Zizhiqu on the western slope of Greater Khingan Mts.

Fossils

The formation yields merely brachiopod characterized by the Tuvaella rackovskii assemblage with major elements such as T. rackovskii, Howellella tapsaensis, Meristina hinganensis, etc.


Age 

The age of this formation is from Late Llandovery to Early Ludlow because T. rackovskii is generally known from the period according to Su Yangzheng (1981).
